Video: Digital Foundry’s Smash Bros. Ultimate VS MultiVersus Comparison

There are many fighters who are “inspired” by Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and the latest to hit the scene is the Warner Bros. title MultiVersus – featuring iconic heroes and cartoon characters such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Bugs Bunny and Tom & Jerry.

The tech experts at Digital Foundry couldn’t resist the temptation and decided to do a video comparison to see how this new game compares to Masahiro Sakurai’s masterpiece. It’s already been a huge uphill battle when you consider how much Smash Bros. has been refined over the years, but can it really compete?

Digital Foundry notes how the battles naturally borrow a lot of ideas from the Smash Bros. move set, but the mechanics and flow of the battles aren’t “as tight” as Smash Bros. It also apparently lacks the visual cues and sounds on the screen that may have been overlooked. Across the board – the game runs at 60 fps, which matches the performance of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

There are plenty more comparisons out there – with DF getting a more detailed rundown around 10 minutes in, so feel free to take a look if you’ve been wondering how this Smash Bros. contender holds up. You can find more information on our sister site Push Square:

And if you’re wondering, this free-to-play title seems to be skipping a Switch release. However, there are plenty of alternatives to Super Smash Bros. on the Switch, such as Brawlhalla and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl.

What do you think of this latest Smash rival? Have you tried it? Do you still play Smash Bros. on Switch? Leave your thoughts below.
