Pokémon fans are expected to be quite divided over the upcoming main titles Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. While many embrace the new open-world nature of the games and the apparent freedom it offers players, others are disappointed that the games appear to be a step back from Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
However, some fans have noticed a very specific change in one of the creatures shown in the trailer: Eelektross, the last form of Tynamo introduced in Pokémon Black and White.
As reported by Automaton, Eelektross started by standing up in front of his sprite in Generation V, garnering praise for his intimidating appearance. However, when Game Freak entered the 3D realm with Pokémon X and Y, Eelektross was changed to soar in the air, presumably to demonstrate his levitation ability and his immunity to ground attacks. NB:
Given Game Freak’s affinity for replicating assets from X and Y onwards, Eelektross hasn’t changed its mind since then, much to the chagrin of fans who preferred black and white. But that seems to be about to change, as in the most recent trailer for Scarlet and Violet, Eelektross appears to be standing up again.
Fans have also been quick to notice the change and have taken to Twitter to express their excitement:
It’s a small change, sure, but a welcome one for the longtime fans! You can check out the new image of Eelektross in the new trailer below; it appears at about 1:53.
What do you think of this apparent change to Eelektross? Are you excited? Don’t you care? Let us know!
