Oak Forest shooting today: 4 dead in fire, barricade situation on Ann Marie Lane; neighbors say shootings caught on video

OAK FOREST, Illinois (WLS) — Four people are dead in Oak Forest after neighbors said a man shot his relatives outside his home before barricading himself inside and setting the house on fire.

The man’s neighbor’s Ring camera captured video of the incident Friday morning on the 5500 block of Ann Marie Lane in Oak Forest, showing the man shooting three people. Neighbors say one person ran away.

The man can then be seen going back inside and barricading himself. Shortly afterwards there was a huge fire.

The Cook County medical examiner confirmed they are responding to four deaths at the home.

Neighbors said they heard more than a dozen shots around 6:30 a.m.

Oak Forest officials tweeted just after 7 a.m. that a person had been barricaded in the 5500 block of Ann Marie Lane.

They asked residents living in the area to take shelter but said there was no threat to the community by 10 a.m.

The Chopper7HD flew over the house just after 7:15 a.m. and a major fire had broken out.

The flames were visible through the roof and there was a lot of smoke.

At about 7:25 a.m., firefighters tried to put out the fire.

Oak Forest Police said they were initially responding to a “household situation” in the area.

Neighbors said the family had lived in the house for about eight years.

Another neighbor said the family had behaved strangely in recent weeks and that he heard a lot of arguing and yelling. He said the police had been called to the house earlier.

Emergency services were on the scene all morning and went inside to investigate the fire.

Neighbors are really devastated and in shock at what happened.

“It’s a very tragic situation today; we don’t know who was injured, or if anyone was able to leave the house,” Cheryl Wilson said.

“We ask everyone to pray for the family,” said Cody Wilson.

Central Avenue has been closed from 155th Street to Independence Avenue while police and firefighters continue the investigation.
