Kanye West and John Legend have failed to mend their broken relationship. Legend, who has publicly called West a “sold out,” confirmed that the politics caused a rift in their friendship.
“We’re not as many friends as we used to be,” Legend said on Wednesday The Ax Files podcast on CNN. “I honestly think because we publicly disagreed about his candidacy, his support for Trump. I think it became too much for us to maintain our friendship.”
West was the most famous supporter of former President Donald Trump, confirming last year that he “still wears a red hat.” Kim Kardashian’s ex-husband made a failed presidential election in 2020 as a third-party candidate, but his campaign was apparently led by several Republican agents seeking to get Trump reelected.
David Axelrod noted that Legend was not alone in not supporting West’s bid for the presidency.
“I wasn’t alone in that, but you know, he wasn’t happy about that. And we haven’t been close since then,” Legend replied.
No love is lost at West’s end.
In November, the “Runaway” singer called out Legend and Big Sean for their lack of support, calling them “scared.”
“Both John Legend and Big Sean, when I walked into the office, they quickly got used by the Democrats to come to that guy who really changed their lives. And that’s some sold-out shit. And I don’t rock with neither and I must apologize,” he said on the Drink Champs podcast.
Legend and wife, Chrissy Teigen, have stayed close to Kardashian.
