False report of active shooter at Princeton HS, possibly part of a bigger hoax: Police

SHARONVILLE, Ohio (WXIX) – Sharonville police say reports of an active gunman at Princeton High School are “false” and they are now investigating it as possibly part of a larger “hoax.”

Lieutenant Walter Cordes tells FOX19 that police are NOW receiving reports of similar incidents in other districts.

It all started at 10:12 a.m. Friday at Princeton High School.

Someone at the school called 911 and told a dispatcher there was an active gunman with possibly 10 injured, Cordes said.

Dozens of police officers from various law enforcement agencies converged on the school on Chester Road off southern Interstate 75.

They searched the building before releasing everything at 11 a.m. It took so long because the police had to go room by room all over campus to make sure, Lieutenant Cordes said. adding that no one was injured.

The secondary school and surrounding businesses will remain closed until further notice.

Due to the disruption, Princeton High School students will be fired for a day, police say.

Bus drivers are taken home and dropped off at their normal locations.

Students arriving by car can access their car and leave the campus.

Students who have yet to be picked up will be escorted to Vineyard Church, 11340 Century Circle in Springdale, where they can be picked up by their parents.

“DO NOT respond to the school,” the Sharonville Police Department urged on Facebook. “There is still a heavy police presence at the school.”

Princeton Middle School has not been affected by this and, according to police, is continuing on its normal schedule.

Previously, parents frantically ran to the school and were referred to Vineyard Church, where they were seen cuddling and reuniting with their children.

A police officer announced on a megaphone that they were 95% sure that the active shooter’s report was a hoax and the school is clear.

All roads around campus are closed, congesting traffic and turning Chester Road and surrounding streets into a parking lot.

These streets have reopened, but there may be delays in the area.
