2022 AANEM Distinguished Physician Award Winner Announced

Rochester, Minnesota (July 15, 2022)- The American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM), is pleased to announce Anthony E. Chiodo, MD, MBA, as the recipient of the 2022 Distinguished Physician Award. AANEM honors one member each year who has provided outstanding service as a physician and/or educator and is an active supporter of AANEM activities. Due to his outstanding work in PM&R related to spinal cord injury and quality of life for his patients, as well as his education and involvement with the AANEM, Chiodo is a creditable candidate for this award.

Chiodo received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut Medical School. He completed a residency in PM&R, served as chief PM&R resident, and completed a fellowship in PM&R at the University of Michigan Hospital. Chiodo decided that medicine was the best way to use his passion for science and helping people.

He currently serves in multiple capacities at the University of Michigan Medical School and is one of the few physical therapists to hold sub-specialty board certification in pain medicine, EDX medicine, and spinal cord injury medicine. His favorite part of being a doctor is the opportunity to connect with patients in a way that really makes a difference in their daily lives. “This could be by getting the right diagnosis and guiding them to the right care, identifying risk factors for secondary health problems and getting them treated, or directing rehabilitation efforts so they are more functional in their lives,” he said. Chiodo will be recognized at the upcoming AANEM Annual Meeting, scheduled for September 21-24, 2022, in Nashville, TN.
